Lu Qingcheng nodded and asked, "Sister-in-law, when will Aunt Cai be back?"
"Second brother has already gone to pick them up, it will be almost noon." Yang Xueli said shyly, "Grandma has been busy preparing since yesterday, and there will probably be many people visiting today, so I thought I would go and help out."
"Where did Aunt Cai come from?" Qingjian Yue asked.
Lu Qingcheng smiled at him, "I forgot to tell you, Aunt Cai is the mother of Brother Bo'an and Zhonghe. Since Lord Cai passed away and Brother Bo'an got married, Aunt Cai has been traveling and enjoying herself, only returning a few times a year. Aunt Cai is a very spirited and forthright person. She will definitely like you very much when she sees you."
Qing Jianyue became interested. "If you're busy, Lord, please let me go and pay your respects to Aunt Cai on your behalf. Aunt Cai is the mother of Cai Da Law Enforcement Officer and Cai Si Lord. It would be really unreasonable for you not to send someone to greet her in person."
"Qingfeng will personally greet you in my place, so you don't need to worry about it." Lu Qingcheng refused outright, leaving Qing Jianyue greatly disappointed. Lu Qingcheng smiled and said, "Let's go back."
Qing Jianyue knew she couldn't win against him, but she really didn't want to cause trouble and become the subject of gossip in front of everyone. Helpless, she could only stubbornly pull her hand back and skip away ahead, pretending nothing had happened. Lu Qingcheng followed behind, a thoughtful expression on her face.
Watching them walk away, Yang Xueli said softly, "I have a feeling that Jianyue is having a disagreement with the Lord of the Fortress."
“The kid has finally grown up.” Lei Yongxiang said something completely irrelevant. “Let’s go too. The snow is getting heavier and heavier. You’re not very healthy and can’t withstand the cold.”
Yang Xueli suddenly burst out laughing.
Lei Yongxiang, his head covered in a mixture of water and snowflakes, asked, "What's so funny?"
"Do you remember when I said I wanted to marry Jian Yue, you wanted to strangle her?" Yang Xueli glanced at her husband with a shy yet charming look.
Lei Yongxiang blushed. "He was so angry he lost his mind. When people are confused, they lose their ability to distinguish right from wrong."
"Now you understand," Yang Xueli teased her husband.
"Hey, why bring up those old grievances? Let's go, my dear wife."
Amidst their cheerful laughter, the couple walked hand in hand through the pristine, swirling snow.
Back at the Study, as they entered the flower hall, Qing Jianyue was about to remove his cloak when Lu Qingcheng reached out and gently helped him take it off, tossing it to Wang Jie who was standing nearby. Lu Qingcheng then smiled at him. Qing Jianyue understood his meaning and reached out to help him remove his cloak as well. Lu Qingcheng smiled even more broadly, pulled him to sit down, and personally served him food. From the doorway came the crunching sound of a white fox happily munching on a large plate of fresh meat bones.
"I have a lot of approvals to review today. Don't wander around, come with me. This afternoon, we'll go to the Cai residence to pay our respects to Aunt Cai."
“Mrs. Lei went, and Mrs. Su and my wife will definitely go too. They’ll surely make lots of delicious food.” Qing Jianyue looked at the mountain of food piled up in her bowl.
"That won't happen until after noon. Going now will only cause them trouble." Lu Qingcheng looked at him resentfully. "You don't want to keep me company, or you find me annoying, do you?"
A chill ran down Qingjian Yue's spine, and she forced a dry laugh, "What are you saying, Lord? Whatever you command me to do, I will do my best to fulfill it. How could I dare to utter a single complaint?"
“Jianyue, you know what I mean. You’ve been acting strange ever since we came back from the peony garden.” Lu Qingcheng said in a sad tone, “I can tell you’re trying to avoid me, you want to stay as far away from me as possible.”
Qing Jian Yue felt her head spinning. She thought, "Heavens, why is he saying such irritating things?" She forced a smile and said, "Lord, please eat quickly. The food is getting cold, and then we'll have to trouble the kitchen to remake it. After you finish eating, I'll help you finish reviewing the documents so we can go to the Cai residence to pay our respects to Aunt Cai. If you go too late, people will say you're not respectful enough to Chief Enforcer Cai and Lord Cai the Fourth."
"It's good that you know." Lu Qingcheng picked up the bowl and ate heartily. After all, she couldn't push him too hard, otherwise it would be a very troublesome thing if she really angered him.
Qing Jianyue spent the entire morning accompanying Lu Qingcheng as he reviewed documents. With him as his assistant, Lu Qingcheng's work speed was astonishing; he finished approving all the required comments in just one hour. Qing Jianyue jumped for joy, "Lord, can we go to the Cai residence now?"
"No need to rush. When Aunt Cai arrives, someone will inform her." Lu Qingcheng spread out Xuan paper and ground out a thick, fragrant ink. "Come, practice your calligraphy."
Kiyomi Tsuki groaned, "More calligraphy practice?"
"Your handwriting looks like scribbles, how can it be shown to anyone? You're not afraid of losing face, but I am. From today onwards, you'll practice your handwriting quietly in the study for an hour every day. Come here, if you dare to sneak away, I'll break your legs." Lu Qingcheng glared at Qing Jianyue, who had already sidled up to the door, and scolded her.
Kiyomi Tsuki pouted and returned to her desk. "We don't need to take the imperial examination, so why do we have to write our characters so wildly that no one can recognize them? It's like saying, 'Look how learned I am.' But what's the use of being learned? It's only useful if you can live a happy life and have enough money in your pocket."
"Enough with the nonsense. With your intelligence, you'll be a great help to me in the future. So from now on, I need to train you properly."
Lu Qingcheng pulled him to stand in front of him. Qing Jianyue watched the white fox slip out of the room, filled with envy. Lu Qingcheng's large hand rested on his waist, causing Qing Jianyue to tremble slightly, a strange, indescribable feeling rising from the depths of his heart. His subtle changes in expression did not escape Lu Qingcheng's notice. Lu Qingcheng then pretended to instruct him, holding his hand and demonstrating as he spoke in his ear, deliberately breathing his warm breath on his face. Qing Jianyue's face flushed red and then paled, feeling incredibly awkward.
Finally, after he finished demonstrating, Kiyomi Tsuki pushed him hard and exclaimed, "I've practiced it myself!"
No matter how much he refused, Lu Qingcheng wouldn't leave, and even said with a smile, "Write it down for me to see."
"No, I can't write anything with you watching me like that, sir." Qing Jianyue was so anxious that she shook her hand holding the brush wildly, and accidentally, a drop of ink splashed onto Lu Qingcheng's face. Qing Jianyue was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter, "There's a little turtle crawling on your face, sir."
"You naughty student, how dare you throw a turtle at the teacher's face! I'll punish you by giving you another little turtle on your face too."
Lu Qingcheng grabbed a brush, dipped it in ink, and insisted on drawing a little turtle on Qing Jianyue's face. Qing Jianyue laughed and dodged, the two bickering so much that they didn't even hear the announcement outside. When the carved door opened and Madam Lu walked in, supported by Xu Yun, not only did Madam Lu and Xu Yun get startled, but Lu Qingcheng and Qing Jianyue were also taken aback. When Qing Jianyue met Xu Yun's surprised eyes, she felt utterly ashamed.
Lu Qingcheng hurriedly released Qing Jianyue, who was also startled and dropped her pen, her mind a complete mess, unsure of what to do. Suddenly, she noticed the ink on Lu Qingcheng's face and instinctively felt something was wrong. Without thinking, she pulled out a handkerchief and frantically turned Lu Qingcheng's face to wipe it, doing so with such force that her movements were definitely rough and not gentle at all.
Xu Yun stared wide-eyed, her mouth agape in an unseemly manner, thinking to herself: My God!
Since everything had already been seen, there was no point in trying to cover it up. Lu Qingcheng simply lowered his face and let Qing Jianyue wipe it for him, not caring how rough she was. He smiled at Qing Jianyue, who was sweating profusely, and asked, "Why is Mother here?"
Madam Lu trembled with anger. She glared at her son, "I thought you were working hard, but I didn't expect you to be flirting. Did I disturb you, son?"
Qing Jianyue's hand trembled, and the handkerchief fell. Lu Qingcheng caught it, then turned his face towards her and began wiping the ink off his face. Qing Jianyue tried to dodge, but Lu Qingcheng had one hand on the back of his head, leaving him nowhere to hide.
"Mother can come whenever she wants; it's not a bother at all. May I ask what advice Mother has for me?"
Madam Lu was furious at her son's arrogance, her face turning pale. Her fierce gaze was fixed on Qing Jianyue's back. Qing Jianyue was extremely upset. She struggled to break free from Lu Qingcheng's grasp, circled around from behind the large desk, and fled the study with a face full of shame, not daring to look at Madam Lu. She looked like a thief caught red-handed.
Emerging from the study, he ran as fast as he could, ignoring the calls that were being made. He ran for what seemed like an eternity before finally stopping. He leaned against a tree trunk, panting heavily. The white fox let out a cry, and only then did he notice it. The white fox was also slightly out of breath, indicating that he had run quite a distance, and the white fox had stayed by his side the whole time.
Kiyomi Tsuki plopped down on the snow, his face as red as a ripe egg, his heart pounding wildly. How humiliating! He'd completely lost face! The white fox cried out again, looking into the distance, its large, snow-white tail swaying gently. Kiyomi Tsuki knew someone was coming. He hurriedly scurried behind a hedge of evergreen trees covered in snow, and the white fox ran over, curiously watching its master. It cried out again, "Master, shall we play fox catching hen?" Kiyomi Tsuki pulled it into his arms and hugged it tightly, signaling it to be quiet. He absolutely couldn't run into anyone he knew right now, or his reputation would be completely ruined.
A sweet voice, "I rock and rock, I rock and rock..." grew closer as the sound grew louder. Qing Jianyue thought to herself: It's that vixen He Yunya. Good thing I'm smart; if I were to run into her now, she'd laugh me to death.
"Yun Ya, can't you walk properly?" He Zhiqiang's impatient voice drifted in with the biting cold wind.
"Oh dear, I'm tired, let me take a break." He Yunya stopped nearby.
Kiyoshi gritted her teeth. This damned woman, why did she have to rest here of all places? If she doesn't get out of here, I'll transform into a thousand-year-old demon and bite her to death, then drain her blood. Get out of here now!
He Zhiqiang said angrily, "You sway back and forth like that, aren't you tired? My eyes are tired. What kind of girl flaunts herself like that? It's really outrageous."
