Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Broadcast script
If this scenario were in a TV series, the next part would be that both sides gather together, exchange harsh words, and then start fighting without warning. At the very least, a teacher would appear, stop them, and they would go back and forth explaining the cause and effect, ultimately resulting in good and evil being rewarded accordingly.
However, in reality, before everyone could even react, the school bell rang.
Ying Yunsheng lowered his eyes, pulled Ji Li up, and rushed straight to the classroom.
Whether the others were influenced by them or the roar of the head teacher echoed out of the building after the bell rang, their fear of the teacher instantly overwhelmed their shock, and they all followed behind the two of them, running wildly towards the teaching building, creating a scene of a hundred ghosts walking at night.
The court emptied instantly, with only the basketball that had just hit someone rolling to the side, hitting the dark green hoop before coming to a stop.
The boy still lying on the ground looked like a dramatic joke in comparison.
.
"Life originates from movement. Why does the school specifically establish a one-hour exercise system every day? It's to ensure that students get a certain amount of physical activity amidst their busy academic lives..."
During the opening ceremony of the school sports meet, school leaders spoke eloquently on the stage.
Cui Zhuoyue sat down and repeated the title of the popular forum post: "When a three-pointer hits the target, the players on the court look up at the sky in respect" - If anyone on our school's basketball team had this skill, would we still have to worry about not winning the championship?
Jian Mingyuan looked shocked: "Who is it?"
"Ying Yunsheng is first in the science stream of the grade."
Jian Mingyuan was even more shocked: "Him?"
He simply returned to the classroom ahead of the other person last night. What exactly did that person do after he left?
Cui Zhuoyue glanced at him: "I wanted to ask you a few more questions, but you don't know anything?"
What should I know?
“It was nighttime, so it was already dark, and the situation was chaotic. The school bell rang right after the incident, and many people didn’t even see who threw the ball, let alone know the specific cause and details.” Cui Zhuoyue stared at the podium. “I searched through many floors before I saw someone reply, saying that the person who was hit seemed to be from the science class. Many people are guessing that the science whiz might have a grudge against that person and deliberately retaliated. This is the most popular theory right now.”
Jian Mingyuan frowned and thought for a moment, then suddenly said, "Ji Li."
"What?"
“He seemed to be with Ying Yunsheng last night; maybe he knows something.”
Cui Zhuoyue's eyes suddenly lit up: "Really?"
"Huh?" Jian Mingyuan looked bewildered by her sudden excitement. "Really...right?"
A burst of enthusiastic applause suddenly erupted, instantly drowning out the conversation between the two. The school leader finally finished his long speech, and the honor guard, carrying brightly colored flags, followed closely behind.
The homeroom teacher of the science class looked at the students in front of him and sighed: "What happened this time?"
Ying Yunsheng was always obedient in front of his teacher, keeping his head down and remaining silent.
"Is there something you're hiding?" The homeroom teacher noticed the hesitation in his eyes. "Don't be afraid, just tell the truth about what happened."
"They threw the ball over first."
The homeroom teacher's expression gradually turned serious: "You mean, they deliberately hurt you first? But why?"
"I don't know." Ying Yunsheng paused for a moment. "We ran into each other in the corridor before the class division, and it seemed like they didn't like me much back then."
Because of Ying Yunsheng's family situation, any teacher who knew about it worried that these mentally challenged high school students would ostracize and bully him, not to mention the living precedent of Shen Huai.
The homeroom teacher's mind immediately shifted. She was about to ask something else when a voice suddenly rang out from the side.
"Teacher Zhang."
The homeroom teacher looked in the direction of the voice and recognized the student who frequently appeared on the grade's honor roll: "Ji Li? Is there something you need from me?"
"He came to see me." Ying Yunsheng grabbed his wrist before he could speak. "Teacher Zhang, is there anything else?"
The homeroom teacher shook his head instinctively.
"Can I leave now?"
"Can."
Ying Yunsheng pulled Ji Li along until they reached a secluded spot behind the playground before speaking: "They deliberately smashed you last night."
Ji Li didn't understand why he suddenly brought this up: "So?"
"Teachers wouldn't ignore something like this; there's no need to explain it as an accident."
“But didn’t you say they deliberately smashed me?” Ji Li looked at him. “How did it become a conflict between you and them?”
"Well……"
"Aren't you afraid that if you say that, they'll be punished and retaliate against you?"
"Well……"
"Everyone else is afraid of getting into trouble, why are you so eager to take the trouble upon yourself?"
Ying Yunsheng's eyelashes fluttered: "But I want to protect you."
Ji Li was taken aback, but then smiled and said, "Thank you, but please don't do this next time. It's my business, and you can't watch over me all the time."
"But you're still in my sight."
"Well……"
"Whenever I can see you, I want to protect you."
"Uh..." The opening ceremony continued.
The performance by the etiquette team was reaching its climax, with the drumbeats from the speakers as dense as a downpour.
Ji Li stared at him for a while, then suddenly asked, "Have you had breakfast?"
The school sports meet opening ceremony started at seven o'clock in the morning. Many students were more reluctant to leave their beds than to enjoy breakfast, so they decisively chose the latter when they heard the wake-up call. However, after listening to the sound system on the lawn for almost an hour, the scales of their choice began to tip in favor of the former without any principles, and they regretted not getting up earlier to have breakfast.
When Ying Yunsheng returned to his class, the opening ceremony was nearing its end.
Meng Xing stared ahead, imagining what they would eat after the party ended, when suddenly he smelled the sweet aroma of bread coming from behind him. He turned around and stared wide-eyed: "A croissant..."
Feeling the intense gaze upon him, Ying Yunsheng silently looked up and met his eyes.
Meng Xing waved his hand, tears welling in his eyes, "Don't worry about me, I was just smelling it to satisfy my craving." He took a deep breath, "It's from the school bakery, right? This bread is super expensive, and they only make a small quantity each day. Is this what you just bought?"
“I didn’t buy it,” Ying Yunsheng said. “It was a gift from someone else.”
"girl?"
"Boy."
"Oh." Meng Xing's face immediately filled with regret. "I thought it was from your peach blossom."
.
During the school sports meet, apart from the athletes, everyone else is free to arrange their time as they please. Whether they want to stay in the classroom or go to watch the competition live is entirely up to their personal choice.
Cui Zhuoyue originally wanted to wait until she got back to find out what happened last night, but Mao Xianzhi said that winning a prize was up to fate, but cheering was something they could do. So he insisted on having all the students in the class at the competition to give the athletes more face.
Ji Li originally wanted to go and see what was going on, but Mao Xianzhi ruthlessly sent him back, handing him a stack of blank letter paper and instructing him to write the broadcast script for the school sports meet, euphemistically called "making full use of fragmented time".
The school does not actually mandate a certain number of submissions per class.
However, since each submission would earn the class an extra 0.1 points when the scores were tallied, Mao Xianzhi justifiably assigned this task as homework to the entire class, requiring each person to write at least one.
This directly led to everyone carrying practice books even while watching the game. Students from other classes mistakenly thought that all the students in Class 1 of the second year of high school were the kind of hardworking students who never put down their books even when participating in group activities. Their admiration and sense of crisis rose simultaneously, directly setting off a wave of imitation from surrounding classes.
Whether or not you actually read the book, you can't lose face at least in terms of appearances.
As for Ji Li, under Mao Xianzhi's persuasion, he was forced to take on all the projects and had to write an article for each sports event.
The answer is, "The class monitor must set an example."
Ji Li had never been a class officer before, at least not before this class reshuffle. In the past, some teachers had privately asked him if he wanted to take a position in the class, but he always refused. He never expected that the new homeroom teacher would skip the voting process and appoint him directly.
He didn't know if the other class monitors were all so good at taking on tasks, but the first task he was formally assigned was to deliver a stack of forms to the dean's office on behalf of Mao Xianzhi.
When Ji Li took it, he glanced at it and saw the words "Poverty Application" in bold at the top, and the name on the top sheet was Zhu Yi.
He asked, "Should I deliver it?"
Mao Xianzhi was busy typing on the computer, not even looking up: "Otherwise what? Did I make you class monitor just to fill a vacancy in the class? Of course, it's to be used."
This shows that Mao Xianzhi viewed class leaders as the chief minister to the head of a country, the internal affairs secretary to a company president, or the errand boy to a gangster.
.
As Ji Li listened to the announcement coming from the loudspeaker on the distant playground, he had just written two lines when there was a knock on the classroom door.
The person who came was a girl with her hair in a ponytail. She called his name: "Ji Li".
Students passing by in the corridor stopped in their tracks.
Ji Li stood by the door: "Did you need something?"
Ling Luo stood with her hands behind her back. She was bright and beautiful, and her voice was soft yet sweet: "I heard that you and Tong Siliang had a conflict on the court last night. He only caused trouble for you because of me, so I wanted to come and apologize to you."
Ji Li asked, "Who is Tong Siliang?"
“During the break between evening self-study sessions yesterday, Tong Siliang and his friends threw a basketball at you,” Ling Luo said. “It seems that a passing classmate helped deflect it and threw it back. Were you guys hurt?”
Ji Li shook his head: "Sorry, you've got the wrong person."
But she had already asked Tong Siliang and his group before, and it turned out that he was the one who was initially targeted.
Ling Luo could tell that he didn't want to delve into the matter further, nor did he intend to have any entanglement with her because of it.
She didn't linger, but the students in the corridor, who were straining to hear her, couldn't calm down.
Someone immediately ran into the classroom, grabbing their friend to share the gossip they had just heard: "Big news! Big news! Our academic genius actually got into a fight over a girl!"
Friend: "Huh?"
"I overheard the conversation between the top student and that girl in the hallway. They said things like, 'They got into a fight on the basketball court,' 'It's because of me,' 'It happened during evening self-study yesterday,' and 'He threw a basketball.'"
The man clapped his hands: "Isn't this enough to reveal the truth?"
