Duft erhebt sich zum Tanz - Kapitel 55

Kapitel 55

"You like kites?" Wuji gently tapped her nose.

"To relieve boredom."

Wuhen laughed:

"Sister-in-law is a master; let's all have a match another day."

Huan'er frowned.

"If the string doesn't last long, the kite won't fly high."

Mukaido:

"Old Zhang from Liuyuan Hutong is a master kite maker. He can make kites that fly high and draw them exquisitely. All kinds of beasts and birds are lifelike. The kite string is made of ox tendon, which is durable. Why don't we order a dozen or so to fly around for fun?"

"Great! Hurry up and go! I want to play every day!" Huan'er exclaimed.

Wu Jie and Wu Hen hurriedly smiled and prepared to leave, while Leng Ziyang followed Yu Niang. Wu Hen took a few steps and then turned back mischievously.

"We all wisely withdrew, out of consideration for our sister-in-law's longing!"

"Dead without a trace!" Huan'er shouted fiercely, stubbornly snuggling into Wuji's arms. "He bullied me!"

Wuji smiled and put his arm around her waist as they walked towards the Orchid Courtyard.

Take care of your health.

"I know." I'll remember this debt. I'll wait until Wuhen meets a girl who can make him lose his mind, and see how she repays him!

Back at the Orchid Courtyard, Shi Wuji pondered how to begin. Fu Huan'er sat on a wooden chair in the porch, lost in thought for a while.

"What's up?"

"I'm going south for a while tomorrow."

Huan'er paused for a moment, then asked:

"A few days?"

"Two months. Wuhen, Wujie, and Leng Gang will go together. During this time, Uncle Leng will take care of the household chores."

As soon as she finished speaking, Huan'er's expression changed, and she immediately got up and walked into the room, slamming the door shut and rushing into the inner chamber.

She didn't want him to leave! How could he be away from home for so long? Knowing she was pregnant, he was the baby's father, how could he just abandon her and go wherever he pleased? She knew she shouldn't be so emotional, but she never wanted to be pregnant, facing the terrifying sight of her growing belly. She was used to his warm embrace, his comfort and strength. He hadn't even said those three words she most longed for… Was it just wishful thinking? Men in this era only knew how to express their feelings subtly; putting them into words would be their death sentence!

Sitting on the edge of the bed, stroking her two-month-old, still flat-chested baby, she wondered what Wuji would be like when he returned in two months. How ugly would she be, with her swollen belly and deformed figure? She'd never heard anyone say a pregnant woman looked good; she was afraid he'd dislike her! So, it would be best if he left until the baby was born! Good heavens! What kind of thinking was that! She didn't want him to leave. But she also didn't want him to see her become ugly. What should she do?

"Huan'er." Shi Wuji had already pushed open the door and entered, lifting her onto his lap, pulling her onto the bed, and leaning her against the bedpost. "Don't get angry, it won't be good for the baby! I'll come back as soon as possible if possible."
