Jiangnan Gaiden - Capítulo 36
As the moon rose and the lanterns were lit, Huan'er summoned Xiao Yi to the Orchid Courtyard for a meeting the following evening. Whether Xiao Qing had betrayed her or not, she didn't know; she figured Wuji would confess when he emerged.
"Is this an account book?" Xiao Yi moved like a ghost.
"Yes." Huan'er handed it to her.
"Only one book?" She was clearly not satisfied.
"I can't find any others." Huan'er was not very happy. This woman clearly didn't take her seriously. The maids in the Su family were all arrogant and bullying.
"Then I'll be going. Master will be here tomorrow." Xiao Yi disappeared into the Orchid Courtyard.
Huan'er exhaled, suddenly feeling a chill behind her. Turning around, she was met with a pair of icy eyes, an expression she hadn't seen in a long, long time. Shi Wuji and his two younger brothers were both there, their faces cold. It was clear they had witnessed her actions and believed her to be a traitor.
Huan'er stared straight at Wuji.
"That's fake."
Shi Wuji suddenly turned around and gave his instructions.
"Take her to the Righteousness Tower dungeon! Don't let her out without my permission!" He said, turning to leave, his voice hard and ruthless.
Huan'er felt dizzy! He didn't believe her! He convicted her without asking why and wanted to lock her up in the dungeon. Her heart full of grief and resentment turned into a low, hoarse sigh:
"You don't believe me."
"You betrayed me, and I can't forgive someone who betrays me!"
Seeing him disappear into the darkness, Huan'er's legs went weak and she quickly grabbed a pillar to hold onto. Wuhen came close to support her, but his face was expressionless. Even Wujie, who always wore his heart on his sleeve, instantly put on a mask and became cold and ruthless.
"Let's go," Wu Jie said.
"You don't believe me either?" she asked, looking at the two of them.
The two remained silent, their thoughts unreadable.
Huan'er pushed their hands away and said softly:
"Don't touch me! If you don't trust me, then don't touch me!"
"Sister-in-law..." Wu Jie hesitated, but was met with a glare from Wu Hen.
Huan'er, her heart bleeding, allowed the two brothers to lead her into the dungeon, oblivious to everything around her. Her entire focus was on the man she deeply loved. So heartless! So resolute! They didn't even give her a chance to defend herself. Believing only what he saw, how could Shi Wuji treat her like this? Perhaps his love wasn't enough? What love was there to speak of? Basic marital affection seemed nonexistent. Or perhaps hatred had blinded him, allowing him to discard even the weakest of feelings? The worst thing was that Su Huan'er was Su Guangping's daughter, making her inherently untrustworthy to Shi Wuji? But could the affection of the past two months be faked? Was he so astute that he couldn't distinguish between genuine and feigned emotions?
Huan'er's empty eyes couldn't squeeze out a single tear. No! She wouldn't cry. If Shi Wuji's feelings for her were so shallow as to lack even basic trust, then he didn't deserve a single tear from her! She considered Xu Qu's affection as nothing more than a facade. She accepted it… she said she wouldn't cry… but tears still streamed down her face uncontrollably! Shi Wuji, one day you'll regret treating me like this! I'll never love you again, never again! Huan'er kept telling herself this…
Amidst tears and dizziness, she fell into a deep sleep on the cold, hard stone bed. Her body was curled up, her face deathly pale. The cell was very clean, at least odorless and well-ventilated. A stone bed was the only furnishing. In this late autumn night, her body would definitely not withstand the cold! She thought, "I might as well die." After Shi Wuji ruthlessly shattered her love, this body, this time and space, held nothing left to cherish. It would be best if she woke up as a lonely soul returning to her mother's side...
