Jiangnan Gaiden - Capítulo 52

Capítulo 52

What a farce. Huan'er stood up and stretched, giving her a strong dose of medicine, to see if she dared to come and cause trouble again.

"Young Madam," Leng Ziyang called softly.

Huan'er looked at him. "What is it?"

"The eldest young master and Ma Xianmei have long since severed ties."

So Uncle Leng was worried she'd be concerned! Huan'er smiled.

“I know what’s going on in this matter and I won’t hold it against Wuji. If Wuji had any connection with her, I wouldn’t have won this verbal battle today. Uncle Leng, thank you for your concern.”

"Of course." He then left.

Of course, she wouldn't say anything to Wuji. No! She wouldn't utter a single word. Anyway, someone would eventually tell him, and she would just wait and see what Shi Wuji would say; she was already looking forward to it.

Xiao Fei said that after Ma Xianmei left, Huan'er stayed in her room, ate some snacks, and then rested. This was normal; Huan'er had been getting tired easily lately. But this was also unusual. Huan'er shouldn't act as if Ma Xianmei didn't exist! Shi Wuji hadn't expected Ma Xianmei to never give up, even coming to his door to show off while he was away! She even brought Ma Shengwen along. He didn't want to go too far. He had thought that Ma Xianmei's years of experience in the world of prostitution had taught her the importance of things, but he hadn't expected that once a woman's carefully planned selfishness failed, even someone as mature and sensible as her could become as ugly as an ignorant village woman. He had just sent Wuhen to the "Red Flower Courtyard" with 100,000 taels of silver, demanding that Ma Xianmei immediately get out of the six northern provinces, and that if she appeared again, the Shi family would not let her off easily.

Pushing open the door, one sees the dappled sunlight filtering through the window into the quiet room, and a gentle breeze tinkles the wind chimes by the curtains. The room has been transformed into a warm and bright space by Huan'er's skillful hands. Huan'er lies quietly asleep on a recliner by the window, a book of poems clutched in her hand.

Shi Wuji activated a switch on the bedpost, instantly bathing the room in a soft pink light. The curtains that had been covering the four stone pillars in the corners rose, revealing four fist-sized luminous pearls, each veiled in pink gauze, transforming the atmosphere into a dreamlike one. He sat on the edge of the recliner, gently stroking Huan'er's delicate pink face.

"You're back? How was the harvest?" Huan'er rubbed her eyes and gave her husband a lazy smile.

"Fortunately. The furs have all been handled by the needlework department."

Huan'er lay down to one side and pulled Wuji down to lie down with her. "Are you tired?"

"Not tired. How was your day? Was anything bothering you?" he asked in a low voice.

"It's alright, I've been resting in my room, it's quite quiet, it doesn't matter whether it's good or bad, anyway you're not here, what's there for me to be happy about?" Huan'er deliberately avoided the topic.

"Isn't there anything else?" He turned her small face to face him.

"For example?" She smiled mischievously.

Shi Wuji sighed, and at that moment she smiled like a fox.

"Believe me, Huan'er. If I had known earlier that my wife would be you, if I had known that heaven would favor me and grant me the woman I love, then there would have been no story before we met."

"But you'll eventually get married. Shouldn't you be loyal to your life partner?" This argument doesn't make sense to anyone. But that's what Huan'er believes in.

"What if I have a wife? It doesn't necessarily mean I'll have love for her. If I hadn't married you, I wouldn't feel guilty no matter how many women I had in my life. Because I don't understand love, and I don't believe in love."

"You mean you feel really guilty right now?" Huan'er sat up and leaned against him. Her eyes were full of curiosity as she noticed the rare look of guilt he showed.

Shi Wuji held her tightly.
